About

Our Story

Set midway between the south Devon and north Devon coastlines and a short drive away from Dartmoor and Exmoor, the village of Uffculme is a great spot for a relaxing countryside break. It's also within easy reach of the many attractions that Devon and Somerset have to offer being just a few minutes away from J27 of the M5 and the adjacent Tiverton Parkway, a mainline railway station on the Exeter/Bristol and Exeter/London Paddington lines.

The many local footpaths on the doorstep provide an excellent opportunity to explore the valley of the River Culm, Gaddon, Slow Jacks or the byways of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are just a short distance away.

The cottage itself is a snug 2 bedroom cobb built house with a kitchen diner and a separate comfortable lounge area. There is also a sheltered rear garden with table and chairs and a side entrance and covered storage should you want to bring bicycles.

Free on street parking is also available.

The house

Step through the front door of Grandma's Cottage and you'll see a cosy sitting room with a sofa under exposed beams facing the inglenook fireplace. Your smart TV is perfectly positioned to view from the sofa and should you want to, you can 'bluetooth' your own music to the funky Harman Kardon sound system.

Themed with vintage pictures and posters throughout, this characterful cottage has a snug kitchen with a dining table that seats 4 to help you enjoy meal times. Being over 300 years old it does have low thresholds though, so don't forget to duck as you move through the lounge to the kitchen diner and utility area!

The kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker, microwave, refrigerator and dish washer. There's even a washing machine should you need to put on a wash.

The door to the rear of the lounge leads upstairs to the bedrooms and second bathroom. The Master Bedroom has a king-size bed which can be split into 2 x 3ft singles on request. There is also a built in wardrobe and easy chair. It's the perfect place for a fabulous night's sleep.

The kitchen leads into the garden room which overlooks the delightful courtyard garden, complete with a small seating area where you can enjoy al-fresco dining or unwind with a glass of wine.

The cottage lies at the top of Coldharbour on the edge of Uffculme, a short walk from the village centre where you'll find a shop and Post Office, a Café and Pub. With free hi-speed WiFi, this comfortable 2-bedroom holiday home offers a TV, a washing machine and a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and range cooker and microwave. Towels and bed linen are provided.

Why Grandma's Cottage?

Up until the mid 1980's a Mrs Pope lived in the cottage. She lived in 2 Coldharbour for over 60 years initially depending on the well for water and an outside loo for comfort breaks. Grandma Pope and her husband Percy had moved in during the 1920s when the cottage belonged to the Bridwell Estate.
